Keeley Jones starts Ted Lasso as a model dating Richmond's star striker and quickly proves she understands people better than almost anyone at the club. Played by Juno Temple, she grows from tabloid regular to marketing boss and business owner while anchoring two of the show's most important relationships.
On Ted Lasso, Keeley Jones's story runs through Roy Kent (Boyfriend), Jamie Tartt (Ex-boyfriend), Rebecca Welton (Best Friend), Ted Lasso (Friend), and Nate Shelley (Friend).
Who is Keeley Jones?
When Ted arrives in Richmond, Keeley is a model and minor celebrity whose fame comes mostly from photo shoots and tabloid pages. She is also Jamie Tartt's girlfriend, which puts her right in the middle of the locker room's biggest headache. Ted soon realizes she is the best person to ask about how to reach his players, and her advice is usually spot on.
After she ends things with Jamie, Keeley becomes close friends with Rebecca, the club's owner, and their friendship turns into one of the warmest threads of the series. She also turns her instinct for publicity into a real career, first running marketing for the club and later launching her own public relations firm, KJPR.
Personality and comedy
Keeley is open, generous, and quick with a compliment, which leads some people to underestimate her. Underneath the sparkle she is shrewd about image and branding, and she has a knack for getting closed-off people, from a guarded Rebecca to a famously grumpy Roy Kent, to admit what they actually feel.
Much of her comedy comes from her unfiltered enthusiasm, whether she is hyping a photo shoot or teaching a nervous Nate how to ask for a better restaurant table. The show also lets her struggle. As a first-time boss she doubts herself, and season three digs into how hard it is for a former model to be taken seriously in business.
Key storylines
In season one Keeley breaks up with Jamie after realizing he is not good for her, and Roy kisses her during the team's trip to Liverpool. The two become a couple in season two, a stretch that includes their Christmas mission to help Roy's young niece Phoebe with a bully. In the season two finale, a venture capital firm offers to back a company of her own.
Season three is rough for Keeley. She and Roy split, she has a short relationship with her investor Jack, a private video of her leaks online, and her funding is pulled, until Rebecca steps in as her investor. In season four she returns to Richmond to sell the club's new women's team to fans, reunites with Roy after a long and bumpy road back to each other, and learns she is expecting his baby.
Behind the scenes and legacy
Juno Temple plays Keeley in every season of the show. Her performance earned her Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2021, 2022, and 2023, part of the show's run of acting recognition.
Keeley's arc mirrors the larger idea at the heart of Ted Lasso: people getting a little better at being themselves with the help of friends. Her bisexuality is handled matter-of-factly in season three, and her bond with Rebecca gave the show a central female friendship that is as important to the story as any match on the pitch.
