The Office is a mockumentary about the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. Regional manager Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, is desperate to be loved by his staff and has no idea how he comes across. His most devoted employee, Dwight Schrute, is a beet farmer and volunteer sheriff's deputy who takes everything far too seriously.
Salesman Jim Halpert and receptionist Pam Beesly bond over pranks and glances at the camera, and their slow-burn romance is the show's emotional heart. The background is just as rich, from Creed's mysterious past to Kevin's chili, Angela's cats, Stanley's crossword, and Toby, the HR rep Michael cannot stand.
Adapted from the British series by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the American version ran for nine seasons on NBC and won the Emmy for outstanding comedy series. Years later it became one of the most streamed shows in the world.
