Jesse Tyler Ferguson was nominated five years in a row, from 2010 to 2014, for the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Casting the pilot was notoriously hard, and Ferguson's casting is remembered as the one part that went smoothly.
