Abbott Elementary follows the teachers of an underfunded public elementary school in Philadelphia as a documentary crew films their days. Janine Teagues, an endlessly hopeful young teacher, believes she can fix anything, even when the school cannot afford rugs.
Her colleagues include Gregory Eddie, a reserved substitute who stays on as a teacher; Barbara Howard, a veteran kindergarten teacher Janine idolizes; Melissa Schemmenti, a tough second-grade teacher with connections all over South Philly; and earnest history teacher Jacob Hill. Their principal, Ava Coleman, cares a lot more about her social media than the school budget.
Quinta Brunson created the show and plays Janine. Abbott Elementary premiered on ABC in 2021 and has won Emmys for its writing and its cast.
